Head canons are fine. Fanfics are fine. They're not canon canon, they were never going to be. That's our argument.

Who gives a fuck what people want to believe is canon at this point, the series ended 12 years ago.

I remember 2002 as well, and I do recall some canon shippers were confused that non-canon ships were being written about.
