The point is they are free, so as long as your laptop or PC is not too slow you can do it. I use VideoPad video editing programm, though I used Sony Vegas, which is expensive yet the most popular editor before. Usually knowing what footage to use for the music is the most difficult.

I love fanvideos. I download my favorites and often rewatch them so I wish there's more.

Making a video from different sources could take more work because the format or the size aren't always the same. And it does take a lot time.
