But there ISN'T a ton of media directed towards adults with the Shonen/Shoujo flair. That's the problem. Yes, there's plenty of stories featuring adults that save the world but not in this specific genre with its unique set of tropes and aesthetics. You have Seinen and Josei type comics and franchises with more mature story line but some people want the light-hearted nature of quirky super heroes and magical girls ala 'friendship', 'goofy fighting techniques', 'sparkly transformations', 'wacky surreal animation', et cetera.
