i liked the ending but seeing it at the theater was funny because after the first Fade to Black, people started getting up, etc, and then oop! more movie! so people sit down again, and so on and so forth for every FoB, with increased grumblings. this was before the time of after-credits sequences (even though RotK isn't really), so early 2000s movie goers just weren't used to stuff like that.

Yep! Up and down, up and down. Part funny, part frustrating. It probably wouldn’t have been quite so confusing and jarring if it had been edited better.
