once you realize that you will in fact move through several sets of friends in your lifetime, that most "friends" are actually acquaintances, and that there's nothing wrong with either of those things, it changes your perspective. don't think of it as abandoning, because I assure you most people who like different things at different points in their lives don't see it that way. it's fun while it lasts but literally nothing lasts. people change. tastes change. fandoms get toxic. series end. other people are not as emotionally invested in their fandom and change to a new one easily. other people may be more or less gregarious.

I may be old and crotchety but that means I've been around the block enough times to know that there is nothing wrong with moving on and losing touch. I don't fret over the people I don't talk to anymore, I remember our fun times fondly and continue moving forward.

Life in general becomes so much easier when you just go with the flow. People come, people go, as do fandoms and everything else. Sometimes it's bittersweet but as long as you had fun while it lasted, that's all that matters.
