Re: If you could see or know one thing about your celebrity crush's personal life...

I swear to god this place makes me feel like a freak. I've never had a celebrity crush. I mean how can you crush on someone you'very never met or spoken to or know beyond their carefully crafted public image??

SA I mean clearly people do but no matter how hard I try it just does not compute.

I responded in this thread already but I don’t know either, because to me my celebrity crushes are about thinking an actor is really talented and attractive, but I’m not fantasizing about sleeping with them or being in a relationship with them and the most I’d want out of a RL encounter is to tell them their work is awesome and ask for an autograph. Well, I’d ask the live ones, anyway. Some of them are dead.

I'm the same, mostly. I don't fantasize about actors. I fantasize about characters. But a lot of people clearly do think about actors that way.

I guess the same way people might crush on a random cute person who they see from time to time, but never talk to.

I phrased my comment badly. I totally get it's a thing, almost an ubiquitous thing it seems like. I guess my brain just doesn't work that way and definitely makes me feel like a freak!

Ah, that makes sense! For what its worth, I don't think you should feel like a freak. We're all wired differently and that's totally cool. :)

I mean... you see someone and think they're cute? A good actor? A good musician? And you... like those things? There's a lot of fantasy and wish fulfillment involved, of course. You don't really know the person, but that doesn't stop most people from imagining what they might be like, and perhaps crushing on that ideal. Maybe people LIKE the public image, which isn't at all surprising since it's probably engineered to be likeable.
