Yeah, this! I play violin, and I come from a family of musicians, so music on-screen is like a huge blaring target just waiting for us to make fun of it :p (my personal favorite is figuring out if period films use period instruments. Filmmakers are actually getting better about this nowadays). I do find it very aggravating when the actor is obviously faking it, but unless music is the point of the show, I just ignore it because finding convincing music on-screen is next to impossible. Now if music is in fact the whole point, and they can't be bothered to do a good job of it, I'm going to stop watching because it's so constantly annoying that I can't enjoy the rest of the story.
