Literally every fandom under the sun has fanfic just as bad as those books. Yet, everyone thinks that's just harmless fun. How about leave people alone? If you don't like it then don't bother with it. If other people like it then let them for gods sake. Stop trying to lecture everyone as if they ought to obey you.

Fanfic is unpaid, as is what little editing it gets. Those books are extremely lucrative profic, with paid editorial staff.

You get held to a higher standard if you're doing something professionally.
