Was there ever any proof of how he was treating Stana Katic, or was it all blind items?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The frustrating thing about this stuff is how often the blind items are actually right. That's not to say that they're always right, but like, how long was Louis CK's abusive behavior basically an open secret that everyone ignored because it wasn't officially confirmed?

Good point. I remember that being a blind years before it came out.

Either way, you can visually see the tension on screen at the time the BI said their relationship fell apart.

I don't have a dog in this fight because I never watched any of NF's shows. My big interest in the rumors was that I'd perch myself in any threads about the Castle wars because the wank always brought me a kind of joy because it was so EPIC and out there.

So take MHO with a grain of salt.

It was pretty much public record that SK and NF didn't like each other. That was both public and obvious. They started out friendly (to the point that the bitshit shippers were convinced they were banging each other IRL), but somehow that working relationship soured in a big way during the show's run.

As for the cause of the souring? That was all blind items, rumor, and speculation. No facts on the ground.

Now you could argue that it was up to NF to be the bigger person in the mess since he was arguably the bigger star, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of proof that that the shittiness of his working relationship with SK was all on him. Based on what's known and public, the shittiness of the situation seemed to be fueled by both of them. It was bad enough that the set wound up being split down the middle.

What I think turned some fans (and the rumor mill) against NF was he had some kind of back issue (an on-set injury? an aggravated old injury? I forget...) that led to him asking for a four-day work week so he could get treatment and rest up (this back injury is part of the reason why he gained so much weight during Castle). When he was refused, he went on a bit of a mini-strike until he got his way. It was in the wake of that mess that the whole "Nathan is a dick" rumor mill went into overdrive.

The other thing that makes me pause on the "it's all his fault" narrative is that SK seems to be the only one who had problems with him. Everyone else who's worked with him seems to like him just fine and don't seem to have any problems with him on a professional level. So take from that what you will. *shrug*

Now I have heard that while NF is great with fans, he can have a bit of an ego that tends to come out when he's annoyed in a kind of "Do you know who I am?" kind of way. There's been a few public examples of that going back to his Firefly days.

As for me, I always got the vibe off of him that he's a nicer, more level-headed version of William Shatner, with all the good and bad that entails. But that's just me.

So, tl;dr: There's definite proof that the Castle turned toxic during its run, but no proof that NF was the sole culprit.

What is this "blind item" people keep going on about? It sounds like inside baseball.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
There's a bunch of entertainment blogs, of various degrees of validity, that post "blind item" rumors and secrets with the names blurred out.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I always break down the blind items on the gossip blogs like this:

75% is absolute RP fanfic bullshit

15% is a case of someone having an ax to grind; there may be an element of truth, but the truth is twisted to fit an agenda, usually a malign one

10% is true

Those percentages can change based on who is running the gossip blog.

Lainey seems to be the one who has the best reputation as far as these things go, but she's got her own agenda and faves.

The worst reputation Crazy Days and Crazy Nights, which is basically a conspiracy theory hellhole where all of Hollywood is a giant whorehouse that includes a healthy dose of rape and pedophilia (accusations of which are invariably leveled at anyone to the left of Gengis Khan)

Gossip Cop is a blog that tries to "prove" or "disprove" the validity of blind items and their frequent targets by using public resources.

When it comes blind items, it's best to take them with a grain of salt. Occasionally they hit on something true, but most of it is just chaff.

I have a friend who worked in production on Castle and she said that he was a really nice guy who treated the crew well, which is kind of a big deal because a LOT of actors either just sort of ignore the crew or are outright jerks to them.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that he was good person or that he was a bad person as I personally have not interacted with him at all but the number of times "good people" turn out to be pedophiles or abusers or people that sexually harras others is staggering, so I wouldn't take anyone saying "he was a nice guy" at face value. Being friendly and charming is how some of the "bad people" in this world hide their ugly side.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

So nice people are not nice? That makes no sense. This was actually a useful piece of intel. Stars who treat the crew like crap are not nice.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Not the anon above, but what I think they meant was something like: sometimes abusers (or whatever kind of bad people) are very selective in who they target. They spray charm and superficial "niceness" at the world in general, but when they decide a particular person (a difficult costar or whatever) is not worthy of the "niceness" they turn it off. Hard. And no one believes the person being targeted, because "he's such a nice guy!"

(Anonymous) 2019-04-06 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the anon above and yes, this is what I meant.

No idea what the story is here, but he was really nice and fun when I met him at a con. Super friendly to fans and seemed to really genuinely love the shows he was in.

Actors can also act friendly at the cons. Just sayin'.

Yeah, even if it was all rumours it ruined it for me. Now I just...see him and wonder how he is behaving. Same if I watch Bull or NCIS. Hard to put aside things when actors have accusations like that on their rap.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Between him and Jayne's actor, I can't watch Firefly again.
