I'm pretty excited, because while I love Cowboy Bebop I also feel I'll be fine with it if it's re-envisioned or details change. As long as the mighty, radical Ed is in it.

Oh man I am not going to complain at all at the prospect of getting to see Mustafa Shakir on my screen again.

The others are all super-pretty too and I'm curious to see how they'll go about adapting this to live-action.

Meh. I can't see John Cho pull off the swagger needed for this.

Also, it is an American LA TV show based on an anime. It is going to be shit.

I've never seen him in anything, so I was simply impressed they cast an Asian dude. Though judging by fan reaction, "everyone was supposed to be white." I thought it was canon that Spike and Faye were Asian. Lol for some reason my vague memories were sure Jet was black but in retrospect it's probably just his voice actor I remember.

None of the race casting is strictly canon, though I would not insist they're all white, lol. I always thought along with some other fans that Spike is Jewish and I was actually really disappointed they overlooked that possibility.

I'm pretty sure he was based off a famous Japanese actor? I guess that alone doesn't strictly mean canon in terms of the universe, but take word of god as what you will.

I remember the one you're talking about but I can't remember his name. But, so, they pull some visual inspiration from a Japanese actor, but they still didn't give him an Asian name. He could have been mixed.

Faye was from Singapore, if that helps. I read somewhere that Ed was Turkish? Shrug. It's the future, a lot of ethnic groups shifted around, and any kind of mix is plausible, frankly.

I am in the minority but John Cho seems like such a lazy choice. Yeah, we get it, there are almost no Asian actors with star power so you went with a guy who's twenty years older than Spike's originally supposed to be and, I don't know, might have the charisma for it.

I'm more or less optimistic about the rest. The choices for Faye and Jet could really work.

I think our expectations for Hollywood are so low that people are just happy they actually cast an Asian guy.

I already knew from the casting call that was going to happen so I had my hopes up for a better choice.

I'd rather see Stephen Yuen than John Cho (nothing against John as an actor or a person, I love him), because I just can't see John as Spike.
