Yeah, I cannot agree with the OP. The care in the development and characterization of this relationship and the two people in it is some of the best I've ever seen, regardless of genre. This show has clearly demonstrated how great of a couple they are. I don't see why that wouldn't be true if they were real people.

I started watching the show around the time S5 was airing and had heard that Jake and Amy got together and was horrified. What a terrible couple! And that thing I really hate, a man-boy with a serious career-focused woman.

But then, there was character development, and they both changed and grew together and when they did get together it totally worked.
