(Anonymous) 2019-04-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)I wouldn't know myself, but I don't consider meeting people from dating sites to be remotely the same thing; one is basically a blind date, and the other is basically meeting a pen pal. Usually you've already bonded a lot more with someone you've been writing to for months or years than you have with someone your friend thinks you might be into. But I don't date at all, so I wouldn't know as well as someone who does.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-06 01:17 am (UTC)(link)That makes sense for the online dating thing, where the end result seems to be 'let's move this into irl space', whereas with fandom irl is kind of a 'if it happens, sure, but it doesn't have to happen for us both to enjoy or chat with each other' kind of thing.
