That's a great comment, and one I totally agree with. I avoided GoT for a long time because of it's supposed cynicism, but when I actually watched it I found it's 110% NOT that. It appears that way on the surface, and if you just listen to what the characters say then you might be fooled. The world might be grimdark and horrible, but the story itself subverts those tropes all over the place.

Westeros doesn't reward the good and kind people immediately. But their goodness has lasting positive effects. Good people humanize even the greatest of villains. Cersei with her kids. Tywin with Arya. Sandor with Sansa and Arya. Theon with Sansa. Jaime with Brienne. etc. etc. etc. And for a lot of those matchups, it leads to redemption. Bad people becoming something better, because there's something better for them to believe in.

That's pretty much the opposite of cynical.
