I'm so glad you're taking the time out of your apparently busy fucking day to think about the issues when you're making your decision on who to vote for in the upcoming election. I'm pleased that you looked at the candidate's stances on the issues and made the most informed decision that you could while staying true to your own personal beliefs. I'm thrilled to note that on the say-so of two masked fucking AUSTRALIANS you're going to cast your vote in the American presidential election.

Because the only news personalities to cover it (and I've been watching for it) are Jon Stewart two nights ago and Rachel Maddow last night.

And Jon Stewart barely touched on it, which surprised me.

True facts. :( But the shock in the audience was obvious.

And that's only the tip of the iceberg. The fact that people don't KNOW these things astonishes me. My neighbor told me that she "likes Palin". She has two daughters that she adopted from China. I tried to impress upon her the fact that if one of her daughters was raped (god forbid), under Palin's rule, not only would the rapist get little more than a slap on the wrist, but the girl would be FORCED to carry the baby to term, but my neighbor didn't really care. She didn't care that Alaska's rape rate is about two and a half times higher than that of any other states. She didn't care that Palin is a homophobe, or that Palin replaced everyone in her town's government with her OWN people. She didn't care that Palin got pissed of at her town's librarian and tried to have her fired just because she felt like it.

This is how most middle aged women feel. They don't read the facts, they don't do any sort of research. They think, "YAY, A WOMAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE! WOOHOO!" and don't realize that this is the type of person who would push McCain's ancient ass down the stairs at the Lincoln Memorial. This is NOT someone ANYONE needs in charge, much less a person who shouldn't have the right to call herself a woman.

I'm disgusted.

No country where people don't bother to educate themselves and take the process seriously can possibly be "free." The whole nature of democracy is pretty idealistic in that it kind of assumes that people will TAKE SOME GODDAMN RESPONSIBILITY TO SPEAK UP FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS.

Personally, I'll never vote for anyone who wants to plant a flag on my uterus. Or shoot wolves from helicopters. Or vote against funding for education and health care for veterans. Or declare war on yet a THIRD country when we're already hopelessly bogged down in two others. Or write discrimination INTO the Constitution...it goes on and on and on. It just pisses me off to no end that the OP probably has no idea what we're talking about.

Last month I met a couple from the US and we somehow got to talk about politics... and the guy said that he's voting for McCain because his wife wis voting for Obama, just like that. He thought it was funny. D8 I tried to start a political discussion with him, but it was obvious that he had no interest in that and was really lah-dee-dah about it.

As a foreigner living in the US, I have gained a bit more hope in America due to your comment.
