My problem with the new Sabrina is how cold and mean-spirited it felt - and not in a fun campy way. Just flat out mean. It was really hard to get into after being a fan of Hart's version. I love horror, dark ambiance, gore, black magic, cults, et cetera but after five episodes I gave up on it seeing as the only character I could manage to care about was Ambrose but he didn't have much screentime.

I felt the same way about it. I went in knowing that it’s not based on the old show and I knew it was going to be much darker, but I just couldn’t get into it.

i enjoy the new one but definitely for different reasons than the Hart show. Chilling Adventures is interesting but not really fun in the same way? i know part of that is the nostalgia talking but if i had to choose one of them to spend a day in, i'd rather hang out with a hilda and zelda that aren't murdering each other constantly.

To be fair, Zelda has stopped doing that.

Yeah...I like the aesthetic, it feels visually like something I could get into but then I hardly liked anyone or warmed to anyone and they've squicked me recently. The whole "Sabrina as female messiah" arc could've been more appealing if they'd waited another season, to make sure their audience was loyal enough to want to follow them there (but if that plot is a bait and switch, I'm not gonna like that either...)

He's in the second half a lot more if that helps.

I loved the Hart version but when I heard the new version is witches getting their powers from the devil and cannibalism I wanted nothing to do with it. Sabrina and Charmed and Buffy were good times for those id-ing as witches and pagans and now we're back to "witches are evil lol"?!

Well, the character is a child, no? It can be weird to see a teen played by an actual teen because usually adults are playing them.

I think she looks adorable and all. But I agree in the sense that as an adult, I'm not really interested in watching real teen dramas.

She is adult like 17 or 18 I think and this is not based on the old show this is based on a comic the chilling adventures of Sabrina is much darker then the show people are literally dying and she kills way more people and she gets very stabby also season 2 is so much better and a lot darker

you okay?

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina centers around a recently-turned 16 year old Sabrina. Much of the plot at the beginning of the show focuses on her birthday. The actress Kiernan Shipka, as of 2019, is 19 years of age.

But yes, the new Sabrina series is not based on Hart's adaption from the 90's. It's based on the 2014 Archie comic.

Wait, she's 19? She looks 12 to me. The other teen characters look like teenagers to me. But she looks 12.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Come on. The girl's got a young face and small frame but there's no way that she looks prepubescent.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-11 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, maybe 14. And maybe it wouldn't have bugged me if she was starring in the other Sabrina. But the new Sabrina is way too R rated for me to be comfortable watching her in it. I had to give up after a few episodes.

Probably because the "teenaged" cast of the 90s show were all in their 20s when the show started, and approaching 30 by the time it ended.

She's supposed to be 16 so I'm absolutely fine with her looking that young.

And MJH never looked like a kid because she was in her 20's while filming the 90's sitcom(I can't remember her exact age but it was a lot older than I thought and it surprised me when I first found out when I was a teen, as an adult when I re-watch the show I'm like: 'oh yeah none of these people look like teens' so it's kind of jarring sometimes when the characters are being understandably immature teenagers with adult bodies).

Personally I enjoy the new show as the silly supernatural romp it is, some of the BG characters are really fun and the witchy aesthetic they're going for is pretty neat. It feels very Sleepy Hollow(movie) to me and I really enjoy that movie so this show is up my alley too.

As a former sixteen year old, it's SUPER weird how puberty does not hit everyone at remotely the same time. I was 5'8 and adult looking when I was fourteen. I don't look too much different at 35.

But then I've seen some teens and it's like, "Are you ten?"

(Anonymous) 2019-04-11 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hart was obviously not a teenager. But I don't feel like the current actress looks her age. The other teenagers on the show do look like teenagers. But Sabrina looks 12 to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've no interest in the show, but I for one L O V E when teenage characters are played by actual teenagers (even when they're older teens). End Dawson's Creek Casting Now!

Yes, let's increase the potential for violations of child labor laws, the potential for the rampant abuse/harassment which happens in Hollywood to be more likely to happen to someone actually under age and the potential for bad acting (because kids, for the most part, can't act as well as adults).

(Anonymous) 2019-04-12 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I agree

Nobody should play a toddler unless they've graduated from acting school and had eight years of experience

Kiernan Shipka was 18 and Melissa Joan Hart was 20.

When their respective first seasons were filmed.
