I didn’t see them but that’s good to know. If you’re saying that I twisted myself into pretzels to sugar coat his actual words and deeds in order to like him, I have to object. I didn’t do this. There was no words or deeds to twist in the OP. All was up to interpretation. The nature of his feelings for Lily aren’t explicitly stated in the books but I don’t think someone would go to the lenghts he did for a mere crush. The “look at me” is also up for interpretation. I was sharing mine, which is as valid as any, including yours and the OP. When I say that I love Snape because he is grey, I mean it. He did bad things that I don’t condemn. I love Harry, Hermione and Neville and hated when he was a jerk to them. But where we diverge is that I don’t think he was a monster either. I wouldn’t qualify the way he treated Harry (badly) near close to abuse for instance. And I had mean teachers, as mean or meaner than Snape. In my opinion, the Dursley are a much better example of abusive people. Why those it have to be 0 or 100 ? Why does defending a character against certain specifics arguments (because I disagree with them not because it’s him) equivoque to stating that they’re perfect little angels ? Or doing the reverse is consider the same as saying they’re the Devil ?
