Oh OP, I feel you. And I think the answer is 'sometimes'. At least for me. I CANNOT figure out how I ever shipped McKay/Sheppard ... and yet the fandom that I gave a second try for the sole reason there was so much fanfic (SPN) I've gone back to now and again and been like, "I get why I liked this so much."
