172: If voices are talking to you, like you can hear them, you're most likely not bipolar but schizophrenic. The two can be confused or misdiagnosed quite often.

I'm bipolar, and I know how you feel though. I don't want anyone to find out about me either :/ As much as people claim they're caring and open minded, they all judge and distance themselves from you once they know you're "crazy", even if you haven't even changed and are the same person they supposedly liked since they found out. Just the knowledge you are is enough to make them back off from you.

I'm bipolar as well, and I have a schizophrenic aunt, and I second everything this anonymous says. What you say in your secret is ambiguous, and depending on how literal you are when you say you *hear* them, and whether those periods are confined to an extreme manic height, you may want to talk to your doctor.

I understand your position though. I'm a writer; I do write fanfiction but I'm focusing on becoming a professional writer. And I completely reject that connection between madness and creativity.

But I also have to add that I ended up coming out to my flist as bipolar, and I was shocked by how supportive people were. In fact, I learned that several people on my flist were bipolar as well. I'm still paranoid about people finding out because I'm afraid they'll see the illness instead of me, but for what it's worth, I've been "out" for a year and I haven't yet had a negative experience.
