[Tim Burton's Dumbo]

(Anonymous) 2019-04-13 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I was on Rotten Tomatoes the other day and noticed Dumbo's low rating, and was surprised by flutter of schadenfreude I felt.
I think it's mostly because of how little patience I have with Burton these days.

Huh. How so?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-13 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand how anyone thought this movie would be good.

I can't keep up with why it's popular to hate things anymore. Help?

Is this just general Disney hate? Dumbo hate? Live action remake hate?
Tim Burton hate? Is this somehow linked to Johnny Depp? All or some combination of the above?

I haven't seen it and don't really care except that Colin Farrell looks hot enough to maybe catch it on digital.

Specifically hating on Tim Burton's Dumbo, as in the film itself, nothing else. The revisions and additions done in terms of plot, characterization, et cetera butchered the original narrative. It's a completely different film from the original animated version with none of the emotional impact of the first. It's just a soulless husk that completely forgets what it's adapting.

Aw man, that sucks. The original was great.

So you've seen the remake?

In theater, yes.

On that note, I really should stay away from theaters altogether. They're always kinda... gross. As if the seats aren't regularly cleaned, which they probably aren't.

that was Johnny Depp in the elephant suit

LOL

(Anonymous) 2019-04-13 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That would have been slightly less creepy than CGI Dumbo.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-13 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I genuinely would have preferred this. :-|

From this secret I learned that it's a Tim Burton movie and suddenly it all makes sense. I'm glad it's flopping hard. Maybe he'll go back to doing something actually interesting and creative rather than the same schtick over and over.

Corpse Bride was the last of his movies that I liked, and even then I thought it was a pity that he made it at the same time as the snorefest that was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and therefore had to share his attention.

For god's sake, what's wrong with you. Stop being so bitter, pitty and hateful. No one is forcing you to watch his movies.
