I feel this movie suffers from haters wanting to hate the cast on principle.

OP

Really? I've heard nothing but good things about the cast and I loved the movie.

Maybe in your circles it did well but in mine it was slammed hard

OP

That's interesting to hear. Truth be told, I was actually really surprised that I ended up liking the movie so much - it isn't usually the genre that I enjoy (romance plus a bunch of singing and whatnot). My only critique with the film was that it seemed to end very abruptly, or at least that's how it felt to me.

Gaga was so beautiful in the singing scenes too. I think she looks incredible with brunette hair and I love the structure of her face. Gorgeous.

It won and/or was nominated for a metric shit ton of awards, grossed over 400 million, and was listed as one of the top 10 movies of the year by the AFI.

Despite your feelings, the movie has suffered very little.

It is not 'my feelings'. In my area/circle of friends, friends of friends and friends of their friends ect it did not do well because of fears over Gaga, fears it was made to wine Oscars and they were anti-that, ect. It was boycotted by a lot of my age group where I am from. Whether that made an impact or not is another thing.

So it sounds like what you meant to say is that it was boycotted in your neighborhood because your neighborhood doesn't like Lady Gaga and something about wine.

Considering that the movie was critically acclaimed, financially successful, and wildly popular despite all that, saying that the movie "suffered" is still pretty ridiculous.

It's possible that you have an overinflated sense of how much the opinion of your hometown affects the rest of the world.
