This is interesting to me. I never ever click on music or look at playlists to listen to while reading fic. I CAN NOT read fic with music on. Music is just way to distracting for me, and in general, I actually am not a big fan of music at all.

Do you really think it adds that much to your fic?

yes. some of the characters react in very emotional ways to the music. if you don't like music you will probably not understand.

Then...write it well enough for a reader to understand? Some people cannot hear or may be in a position where they can't listen to something or, like me, don't give a fuck about music and especially other people's music tastes and don't care to waste their time listening to it when they just want to read some fic. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate a well-written character who responds to a song, but you know what? In that situation, I don't even need to know a title or tune or lyric. An author should be able to convey a character's emotion without relying on multimedia.

I did convey the emotion well in everything that I wrote in that fic, not just the musical references. You're being kind of quick to judge something you haven't even read. If you were colorblind would you being saying "fuck" to somebody who wrote references to color in their fics?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but I'd be judgmental as fuck (sorry if that word offends your delicate sensibilities) towards someone who linked to a specific color image in their fic because that color was ~supposed to be seen~ in the context of the fic and it just wouldn't work without it and their response to someone who questioned it was "if you're colorblind, you will probably not understand". Which sense we're talking about doesn't matter; the attitude that all readers should experience your fic in the exact manner you deem appropriate does.

if you don't like music, don't fucking read them.

Way to miss the point of my comment entirely. And since you made sure to name-drop your fic as if it mattered to this secret, I know exactly which ones to avoid!
