Someone (a job, spouse) treats you like shit, you have enough money to leave them and not be beholden.

It does vary somewhat based on the context. In this context, I would say, not just having enough money to leave a job or a spouse, but having enough money not to have to do shit that you don't want to in general.

5+ million would also be my minimum, I think. I'd fix up my house and just live quietly. Maybe do some traveling on a modest budget.

I am a fairly quiet, boring person, so I could probably live the rest of my life on a few million? And if I came into a large chunk of change, I'd probably start by giving a lump of it to my parents. Then I'd start thinking about travel, I guess. I've never left the country, so that would be nice!

For me personally? Probably a couple million. I'd just low key travel. Pay my parents bills. Get my teeth fixed and lasik.

Well...if it's just me, a couple million tops would be fine.

But if it's me and all the people on my 'lottery list' who deserve their own 10 or 12 million.... Then one of the really *huge* lotteries, like 3 or 400 million.

Significantly lower than these other replies. Assuming liquid assets, 1 million minimum. 1.5 million maximum, because I don't want to work longer than that.

I'd do nothing with it besides live a quiet middle class lifestyle.

I'm in a position where I like my job, don't have a partner, and already live apart from my parents (and have a good relationship with them, anyway) so I don't really need eff you money for the purposes of saying "eff you" to anyone. Money would be nice, though, and since continuing to work (even at another job) is not an issue for me, then half a million would be enough to pay off my house, fix everything wrong with it, replace my aging car, take a few trips, and have lots left over to dump into retirement/emergency savings/investments. A bit more and I could even upgrade to a nicer house. That's about all I need, really.

For me personally? Idk, five-ten million would set me up to indulge in my most ridiculously ott hobbies, travel, own a few properties, and never worry about growing broke, or putting up with stupid shit because the alternative is poverty, in my lifetime.

So, for me, true "fuck you" money has to accomplish 3 things. 1. Allow me to pay off my debts, 2. Ensure that I don't need a job to live comfortably for the rest of my life and 3. Cover any weird-ass medical or other emergencies that life decides to throw at me.

Honestly, 1.5 million would have me more than covered, provided I didn't do anything stupid or live to be much over 100.

500K would be... not "fuck you" money, but definitely "things are going to change around here" money.

Four million would do it I think.

* Invest half of it to endow a charitable foundation which would hire my dependents for just enough salary to qualify for health care assistance and social security tax, using remaining income for actual chariy donation/grants.

Invest the other half for personal income.
