I don't see why it couldn't have been animated like Legend of the Guardians. The owls in that movie looked realistic enough without sacrificing their ability to emote or making them look too stiff.

That would mean acknowledging that Legend of the Guardians happened, and nobody wants to do that.

I mean I haven't watched LotG but even the 3 second gifs I've seen from it looked better than the Lion King trailer. You can't deny that style of animation paired with a good story would be amazing.

They could have made the movie entirely out of video clips from 30-year-old Planet Earth episodes and the animals would show more emotion than the Disney CGI ones do.

Agreed! My cat expresses more emotion than the Disney CGI ones do.

The internet is about 80% emoting cats. Disney is just trolling us at this point.
