Yeah, and my secret is that I don't get why that is.

To me, a catgirl that goes nyaa and acts like a cat and rubs up against things and is mentally way more cat than human is way less "human" than idk, a Tauren from World of Warcraft or something.

DA

Duh, it's the face. You know, the cornerstone of human interactions?

Then I guess my secret would be that I find the cornerstone of human interactions to be mind and personality? lol

Honestly though, some catgirl type characters regardless of 80% human body is closer to bestiality than human on human. How human-like their body is isn't the only factor at play here.

I don't have but also don't judge that kink either, for the record.

This fits somewhere on the spectrum, and is a conversation of its own, but that's really not what most a/b/o is like, at all. You know that, right?

The majority of a/b/o, the characters think and behave almost entirely human, except when they're in heat. And even in heat, they remain human-looking, they talk, they move like humans, they kiss, they engage in anilingus and fingering, often they worry about getting proper consent, sometimes they worry about pregnancy, and sometimes they use contraception. All human things.

The animal basis for a/b/o is almost entirely incidental. If people liked a/b/o because they were into doggie porn, it would be about a hundred times...doggier.

I talked about catgirls because AIRT talked about catgirls.

Like to be fair, you could say this about most furry porn too:

The majority of furry porn, the characters think and behave almost entirely human, except they look like werewolves for example. They talk like humans, they move like humans, they kiss, they engage in anilingus and fingering, often they worry about getting proper consent, sometimes they worry about pregnancy, and sometimes they use contraception. All human things.

I guess to me the defining factor of whether a character is "human enough" is their inner workings and human personality, and most furry characters in my experience parse as "human enough" regardless of their exterior. An alien could be "human enough" too. So can a robot brain in a jar. And A/B/O. To me, all these things parse the same way, as "human enough to count as basically human for the purposes of shipping, without being actually human."

Fair enough. I actually didn't know that about furry porn. I thought the majority of it was more animalistic than that. If this is true, then it's my mistake.

The appearance of humanity does still make a bit of difference to me, though. So, like, fucking Jessica Rabbit definitely isn't the same as fucking Thumper. I guess because, no matter how unrabbit-like Thumper is on the inside, you're still left with the mental image of fucking a rabbit. So like, in theory, I would have to really, really love who that rabbit character was as a person, in order to even begin to get past the mental imagery of bestiality.

Whereas, with Jessica Rabbit, there is no mental image of bestiality to get past. She is clearly a humanoid person in...a lot of very key ways.

Nah, Thumper would count as pretty far on the bestiality scale, the same as the catgirl that acts like a legitimate cat.

A character like the ones in Zootopia or Disney's Robin Hood is what most "standard" furry porn is like. Basically human or close enough, at least to me.

That's why I see that kind of stuff, and A/B/O, and werewolves and all, as pretty equal on the "not quite human but human enough" scale.

Lola Bunny from Space Jam is another example that was explicitly sexualized in the movie itself. Plus usually it's two of that kind of character having sex with each other, not a human having sex with them. They're wearing clothes, they talk, they live in human houses, etc.

I know it's starting to sound like I've seen a lot of porn, but mostly I wanted to see for myself what it was that everybody was hating on, and it turned out to be pretty standard fare imo. I did the same for A/B/O mpreg fandom when hating on that was popular too.

Not any of the anons in this thread so far, and I’m not into furry porn at all. I’m honestly surprised anyone on FS knew so little about furries that they didn’t know furry stuff, not only porn, is about animals that act pretty much exactly like humans. They talk and walk upright and live in houses and often wear clothes or at least accessories. I think fursuits and fursonas are kind of mascot uncanny valley creepy, but fantasizing about thinking, feeling, mostly human-bodied creatures that can talk and so verbally consent to sex =/= beastiality.

Me too. I'm surprised. I figured if people seemed to find something disgusting, they'd know what it was like before blindly disliking it???

Furry isn't my cup of tea, and neither is A/B/O, but I looked at both to see what they were about for myself. And I found the standard versions of both of them to be pretty mundane.

But I guess, at least, now I know why people who are into A/B/O don't see furry stuff as pretty similar. Because they've got no clue what furry stuff is like.
