(same anon again)

Just to add, I didn't have that whole seemingly-universal US formative experience of seeing and loving it as a kid and maybe growing into the more troubling themes later on, so I'm not sure if that is what people loving it refers to for you.
I got into it as a horny virginal late-blooming teenager all primed by shoujo anime and early ff.net, and I went aaaaalll in.

Not sure you'll still see this, but I really need to check out more of the fanfic, since those are actually themes I like.

I didn't see it first as a kid either, but I still think I had trouble appreciating the Hades/Persephone vibes at the time. Maybe it was because of the muppets.

I checked back in. :)

I think the high watermark of Labyfic will always be KL Morgan's 'A Forfeit of Dreams'. It kinda makes the film seem like a trailer of the epicness to come. A while back there was even a sort of Director's Comments going on in her liveJournal but I lost track of all that.
'Goblin Market' by ViciouslyWitty is also a whammy, as is her ongoing 'Tanglewood'.
Subtilior, PaintedGlass, ScatteredLogic, DanseMacabre, KnifeEdge.... are all solid writers of slow-burn and varying degrees of dangerosity and kickass Sarahs.
Lixxle and Pika-la-Cynique focus more on the funny side, but there are some hott moments too.
