I adored the Homeward Bound films as a child, but Lady and the Tramp feels very... essentially cartoony, to me, and I can't see those cartoonish elements making it across to LA dogs. It's not to say that it'll be a bad film, necessarily, but I think it'll lack most of the things that made the original lovable.

Agreed! Good voice actors and no CGI on the dogs' faces would work be perfect.

That said, is Disney remaking all of its animated movies into live action or something? Seems a little weird.

Certainly a lot of them. Live-action adaptions of Mulan, The Sword in the Stone, Peter Pan, and Pinocchio are all in the works. There's talk that Hercules might be on the table in the future. There are also 'spin-offs' coming, with Maleficent 2, Tinkerbell, Rose Red, and Prince Charming.
