That seems like an inflammatory question. It sounds like the friend was wrong to invalidate your sister's experience, and calling him out on it appears to have put him on the defensive. So now you've concluded that all or "a lot of men anyway" are invalidating jerks who can't handle being confronted about their behavior.

Which isn't necessarily man-hating, true, but your post title doesn't exactly help either.

Humans are capable of the following: 1) not believing something they personally haven't witnessed, 2) being in denial about the truth of something they have witnessed, and 3) extending the life of that denial by pushing it on those around them. That's not limited to "men." It just so happens that this time, it had to do with sexism. Which gives the impression that "men" can't handle the truth of their gender's behavior, which may or may not be true. But I don't think it's fair to conclude this based on one incident. Maybe your sister's friend is just a person with a blind spot or missing an empathy chip.
