Magicians is way more subversion/deconstruction than wink-nudge-cmon-fic-fandom serial-numbers-filed-off-expy, which was always the vibe I got about Carry On. Like, part of the appeal of Carry On is that it's Take That to Harry Potter by being functionally Harry/Draco that you can pay for, and feel cool and hip because a Fan Made Good with a Real Book.

Magicians is interested in wizard school and portal fantasy tropes and conversing with earlier works, but Quelliot isn't a palette swap Harry/Ron and Quentin/Alice isn't Harmony just because because they're wizards and also friends, and Quentin is shy and Alice is smart, you feel me? There are very, very different stories and themes going.
