I wouldn't say it's hard. You can pick between Survival mode where you have health/hunger meters and have to explore for materials you need, or Creative mode where you're basically invincible and have an unlimited amount of supplies, if you just want to focus on building something.

In Survival there is an element of difficulty in the beginning because you start with absolutely nothing and have to make basic wooden tools/weapons/shelters until you find some better materials. It's really satisfying to work your way up to having an awesome base and all the best materials stockpiled, and makes building more challenging with enemies to worry about.

The game isn't expensive and the best thing is that it has no real microtransactions/pay-to-play stuff, apart from optional skins, but regularly adds new features, so once you buy it any future updates or patches are included. It's really good value for money, IMO. :)
