No, I mean the whole concept is pretty silly. It's a matter of decorum, though, and having respect for your own cast and crew, and the company that's paying you shitloads of money, and the hundreds of millions of fans who've made that possible.

All I can say is that I'd much rather someone joke around about the source material and the fans and be indecorous, and make a funny, charming, stylish movie, than someone be pofaced and respectful and make a movie that's an indistinct forgettable slog.

That would have been great, except Ragnarok managed to be one of the most forgettable movies I've ever seen. Rainbow fireworks explosions and an endless stream of snappy one-liners and tired jokes don't make for a good movie, as anyone who's watched Age of Ultron can attest. Thor 1 and 2 weren't very good, but at least they were different.

Meanwhile, Winter Soldier was so boring and trite I hated it and it almost ruined MCU for me. Thor 1 and 2 weren't actually that different from the standard MCU movie at the time.

THIS. I don't think that media has to be made by a fan in order to be good. In fact, I think sometimes works made by ardent fans suffer a little from being too close to the canon, emotionally.

Seconding this so hard. He (and the team of people working with him) made Thor a cinematic property that works. He found an angle from which to come at it that pulls together expertly.

So long as the quality of his output holds up, he can say whatever he wants about the source material.
