nayrt - Yeah, I'm sure that's a very satisfactory exchange for being pilloried in the media, having your whole life put under a harsh, victim-blaming magnifying glass and getting bunches of hate mail and death threats.

You'd be surprised at what people are willing to endure to get what they want, or when they don't give a fuck.

I admit though, I just may be saying this because I have the misfortune of being related to someone who just HAS! to TELL! EVERYONE! That they were MOLESTED! as a CHILD! because they enjoy the reactions and the attention it gets them. Not to say they're lying about their experience, but let's just say awareness and fighting sex abuse definitely isn't their goal.

God, this.

Not saying it's FACT that MJ did what they said he did. But logically, I think the benefit of the doubt ought to go to the alleged victims. No matter how people try to spin it, the kids and their families lost far more than they gained by coming forwards, and they almost certainly would've known a fair bit of what they'd have to deal with from the start.
