Yep, older fandom is absolutely like this. I’m part of it and can’t stand it. But I also can’t relate at all to people in the 25-35yo range, so I feel kinda fucked. It’s like all the cool, fun people my age moved away from fandom in general, and I’m stuck with a bunch of crotchety old geezers and a generation I have zero common ground with, like their worldview is so drastically different that I’ve given up trying to interact. And I say all this in full awareness of the irony and that I’m basically proving your point LOL.

tl;dr: I love new things and being excited and fannish but don’t get young people anymore. :(

I know this feel about not being able to connect with the younger fans :( This is why I have been fandoming less and less :(

I guess we should be moving on at this point, too, but I still get excited about stuff so SHRUG.

Moot point now anyway because the actual cool kids (under 25) have moved to platforms we'll never find.

No, it really isn't - it depends on the fandom. My fandom is over 100 years old and we oldies (I'm over 50) still have lots of joy and have zero interest in bitching.
But hey, lazy ageism is always a good go-to, isn't it?

I was speaking to my personal experience in my fandom.

But hey, slapping an "ism" insult on anyone who disagrees is always a good go-to, isn't it?

Ouch, looks like someone touched a lazy, ageist nerve.
