I didn't even mind the fanfiction aspect, if it hadn't been considered canon by Jo. As a crack fanfic it totally worked.

EXCEPT FOR THE CEDRIC DIGGORY PART. Even for a crack fanfic, that was a stretch, never mind what we're supposed to consider an expansion of the universe. So I am with you on that.

It's been so long since I read (and actually enjoyed the weirdness) of this that I had to go look up what happened to him.

https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Cedric_Diggory

........oh, yeah, that happened.

That's... a thing...

What happened? Not a HP fan and I wouldn't know where to look on the Wiki. I don't know where Cursed Child falls in the timeline or anything.

So, explain please?

In 2020, Diggory's participation in the Triwizard Tournament and subsequent death was the subject of Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy's time-travel antics at the request of Amos. They sought to save Cedric and created an alternate timeline where Cedric survived and became part of the Death Eaters, because of the humiliation they caused him when they tried to save his life. Cedric's original and heroic life and death was later restored.

Good lord.

I've had multiple people sincerely believe I'm fucking with them when I tell them the events of that play. Like, multiple people have been compelled to google it themselves because they don't consider my summary plausible. In fairness, I also don't consider my summary plausible.

Yeah... when it first came out and I was seeing bits of the plot online, I thought it was 90% made up - like the random shit people passed off as 50 Shades quotes when that first came out.
But it was all true. Not one single plot point had been made up by people looking to mess with others - possibly because the truth was already crazy enough.

it is literally completely impossible to top the sheer lunacy of that snack trolley scene

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...shit, I think you're right. I was sitting there thinking, 'uuuh, Hogwarts staff and Death Eaters doing the cancan? Romilda Vane is the real Chosen One? Dobby kills Dumbledore?' And none of them matched The Thing With The Snack Trolley.

When I read spoilers online I thought people were kidding. Then I read the script.

I love it. No lie. I don't know if it's intentionally hilarious or not but it's hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to go read the summary of the script myself. It definately feels like a bad fan fiction.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And the fact it robbed pretty much everything at the Tony's will never stop bothering me. Like at least try not to be so transparent about being bought off awards shows!

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, I think it deserved the technical awards. But only the technical awards.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
True, but that's like one out of how many?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I hate even more what it did to Neville (and to Astoria).

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
This! So much! Nothing about Cedric points to the fact that he would make such an awful, horrible decision. This isn't he was humiliated and dropped out of school. This is I was humiliated and became a murderer! He's one of my favorite characters and I hate what Cursed Child did to him.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
See...I get it about Cedric.

He's humiliated in front of the whole school, he goes from being the golden boy everyone is cheering on to...being laughed at.

Then someone is talking about respect and power...and Cedric listens.

I get it.

I went to see the play, despite not being a fan of the script...but I ended up coming away from it loving it. Not just the technical stuff, which was unbelievable, but everything came together.
