There must still be an audience out there for gen, surely? I read a lot of it myself. Often I read more of it than shipfic in fact.

I read a lot of it, too. And write it. I love me some shipfic and smutty fic, yes, but I'll happily read stuff that isn't focused on that, too. I especially love character study fics, for instance.

Not me, (and a number of people here) porn is my least favourite part of fanfiction, and more often than not ruins the storyline because it seems to be more important to the plot for most people.

Well, yeah. If I want gen, I can get that from the canon itself. I read fanfic for the stuff we don't get from canon, which is usually porn.

There are a bunch of gen-exclusive readers but it admittedly depends on which fandom your treading in.

I hear you and it sucks. I haven't stopped posting but I see all the explicit fic getting tons more hits and comments and ugh.
