idk about "sad" but the ending for the httyd movies made me cry and really sad, but it was so beautiful, so i guess, more bittersweet than just sad?

Pan's Labyrinth. Like every Robert Cormier book. Requiem for a Dream.

Pan's Labyrinth was such a fantastic movie and I will forever be salty that it wasn't nominated for Best Picture.

Still lowkey mad about the endings of the Inkspell trilogy and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Never read the Inkspell trilogy but still hate the Last Battle, and I'd still be really pissed if I died and went to Heaven and it really did turn out that nobody ever did anything there but run and eat fruit.

Lord of the Rings I'd also say ends on a bittersweet note since Frodo has to go to Valinor and then eventually Sam does. And the scouring of the Shire. The rimg was destroyed, but there was a cost. It feels really real, and the ending is sad in a good way as well as happy.

I understand the point Tolkien was trying to make but the scouring of the Shire pissed me off so bad. I was glad they left it out of the movie.

Aw. Sorry. I liked it. It made sense to me, story wise. It's sad. But I think I see a lot of Tolkien's own war experiences in that part especially. And I liked seeing the Hobbits rise up and fight back.

The Bartimaeus books.

FFXV is an actual tragedy in the literary sense and it works so well. There's so many stories where the characters fight god/fate and win; there had to be at least one where... it doesn't matter how good you are, how deep your relationships, how much you're needed by other people, god/fate still wins. I like the concept of a truly unbreakable fate sometimes.

Besides, fic handles the happy endings. :D

I don't. I hate that it went there. Life's shitty enough, I don't need a downer ending in my fantasy to remind me of it.

I agree. I especially hated that if it absolutely HAD to end in tragedy, the other three should have died along with Noctis. I know I should just ignored the word of god here but it sucked that they confirmed that yes, the three did survive.

(And don't make me start on the shitty romance.)

Huh? I like the teen lesbian romcom part at least and I do have Netflix. Maybe I'll have to check this out.

Flight of the Heron, by DK Broster. Honourable enemies who keep collapsing into each others' arms, becoming best friends in the process! Gradually ramping up this trope until...

Waaah. It gets me every time.
