LJ Flamecup, that takes me back.

Honestly, I look back at some of the 'classic' megawanks and it's so obvious some of the people have deep issues on both sides. It's also very telling that Fandom Wank totally died off as soon as the social justice movement started to gain traction. A lot of the people they mocked were genuinely mentally ill.

I used to be on Fandom Wank and I kind of saw it happening - people would say "Hey this isn't really funny," and since they had a point there started to be a lot less "wank." (Which is a good thing. There were some interesting discussions there that weren't about mocking people, but I have no idea why I ever thought it was OK to mock people, mentally ill or otherwise.)

Yeah I saw it happen in real time too. About 2009 things really started dying off. We got unfunnywank, and less and less started being posted in the main comm.

I thought a lot of it was funny circa 2006/7 too. I guess like with most stuff in youth, I got caught up with the crowd and forgot there were actual people on the end of it. It was easier just to paint caricatures. Some of them were assholes, but there were PLENTY of assholes on the 'sane' side as well.

Not a good look for everyone involved. It's better as a relic of the past tbh.
