I wish I had been homeschooled, I was really badly bullied and my parents are both very well educated and could have homeschooled me.

I was also very badly bullied but I didn't get along well with my mother so no one ever thought of it. I think I would have turned out OK because I'm good at working on my own. And I think if I didn't have to go to school I might have been less of a terror to my mother. But I'll never know.

I wasn't bullied, but I also didn't get along with my mom AT ALL when I was a teen. And yet she and my dad still decided to pull me out of middle school to homeschool me for five years.

Ha.

That sounds like a really poor decision. I hope everything turned out OK.

Took like 7-8 years of being out of their house and shared health crises, but yeah, we're ok now.

I was bullied and still have PTSD from it. But my parents would have been terrible teachers. Well, they are teachers actually, but of adults. They aren't kid people, and I knew this as a kid. It would not have worked well at all. What I do wish is that they'd put me into the other school option where I lived. There were two options, and they never considered the other option in spite of knowing some of what I was dealing with.

Same for me. My mother almost did when I was in middle school because of how badly I was being bullied and how shitty the school system was-- I had grown up in the Fairfax Country school system in Washington D.C. which was not only really educationally driven but also broken up into focused schools for particular studies depending on how students leaned, then moved for my dad's work to a much smaller city in Colorado. So I not only had "new kid" going against me in a school system where most of these kids had known each other since kindergarten, but because it wasn't anywhere near as academic of a system as I was used to, the fact that I could read out loud from a book with inflection and without stuttering over a word made me a target for being a "teacher's pet" type.

My mother would have been a great teacher. My dad was torn, though, because he thought I'd regret missing out on the social aspect (I did have a couple of friends, and I was in choir), so they shelved the idea. I regret that still. Any benefit I got from those trauma-bond friendships was completely negated by the horrible anxiety and self-consciousness, and the damage to my academic curiosity because I got so fucked up over the idea that being smart and trying hard was bad. I failed out of college because I couldn't get over that mental block.

Neither of my parents graduated high school, so homeschooling wasn't an option, but I think I would've liked a more personal one-on-one kind of schooling.

Being very well educated doesn't mean they'd be any good at teaching, though. Teachers have to go to school to learn how to teach for a reason.
