In retrospect, the reason I didn’t hate Bioshock was that I was able to ignore what it was apparently saying. I didn’t interpret it as having a meta message about gamers, and I was caught off guard when everyone else did. By contrast, Spec Ops: The Line was so incredibly blunt that I couldn’t help but get the (stupid, stupid) message.
