You don't know what a monopoly is.

When people talk about "monopolies" in a general sense, they're probably talking about anti-competitive behaviors and companies and trusts that dominate markets and industries and have excessive control over prices and services, rather than referring specifically to companies with exclusive control and no competitors whatsoever. And it's probably more useful and better to just roll with that rather than insisting on the formal definition. Especially since those things are extremely real problems.
