I watched a video once where someone analyzed how unnecessarily cruel her death was and I just spent 20 minutes trying to find it again with no luck.

I'm still not sure if I'd be ok with that considering she got the kids pushed onto her by someone else who should've been looking after them instead. I was actually talking about this topic (death in film) just last night, this weird sort of requirement that there has to be death to make a story realistic but sometimes it really jars with the overall narrative. I was talking about 'Jaws' and how I think I wouldn't have cared at all had the Mayor got eaten by the shark, despite the fact there could be the argument he was doing what he felt was right, blinkered as it was. I guess how you feel about a supporting character death all depends on how the framing of the story presents that character.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)She was smart, in charge, good at her job. Yes she had flaws in the sense that she thought her job was the be all and end all above caring (even about her job as pointed out when her boss asks her how the dinosaurs are doing), but she learned to care while still being good at her job?
