tbh I prefer them doing that to keeping shows going on as long as they possibly can and wringing out every last drop of anything that made them interesting

Shows have lifespans, and I'd rather have 3 good seasons than 7 with ever decreasing quality

Well, yes, a show being dragged out too far sucks, but to cut one off without a resolution to the storyline(s) over and over again is *amazingly* annoying.

SCD had a lot more story to tell.

Given that SCD ended on a cliffhanger...

And there were the rather strong hints that Abby may or may not be straight.

She was feeling really Ace to me, but who knows. It ended okay, i could live with where it ended, but yeah - a fourth season could have really been a *lot* better, omg.

Or they might have been teasing something with Abby/Winter.

I feel like they were teasing more revelations regarding Mr. Ball Legs for next season.

And then, there's Gary growing independence as a cyber-head business man.

Abby/Winter would have been very cool, I liked their vibe.

Mr. Ball Legs for sure had more story in him, and I liked Gary the more zombie he looked, heh.

*sigh*

Oh, well. At least i have the Deadwood wrap up to look forward to.

The seasons are so short and the story behind the whole thing increasingly complex and built up so well...we needed at least 2 more 10 episode seaons, or a 10 and an 8 to wrap it up properly.

This would make sense if the showrunners were told it was going to end so they could wrap up a show. Instead, they end a show on a cliffhanger. So some people, like myself, don't feel like bothering to watch it because I know it won't end satisfyingly.

This! They can only do three seasons show if they want to (even though it would be stupid), as long as everyone knows.

This is the worst part of it to me.

It's not ending the show after 3 seasons, you wanna do that? Then let the writers iron-out a 3 season arc that will be fully satisfying to watch, I'm sure that most of the audience would be good with that. But they're not, they're just cutting shows off without any closure, how will that incentivize anyone to start watching their stuff in the long-run?

I don't see how cutting a show off too early is any better than letting it rn too long.

And I'd argue that, from a viewer's perspective, it's actually almost always worse, because if a show runs too long and gets bad, you can just not watch the bad parts.

+1

Yup! I stopped caring about Dexter halfway through season 5. Even when they hyped up the ending, I was like, "LOL No. I'll just wait for people to tell me." And I was so happy I didn't have to suffer through that. Same with How I Met Your Mother.

But you know what show I stuck around for? Lost. Once I knew that they were going to end the show in six seasons, I forgave them for season 3.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, nobody is asking for 7+ seasons where the last 3-4 are garbage. 3 seasons would be fine if the show gets a satisfying and natural conclusion, but that's not often the case in Netflix shows.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, if Netflix wanted a series with a certain set of seasons they should at the very least let the showrunners know how many seasons they are willing to give them. That way the showrunners can actually map out how they want a show to end. Or if they don't care they can at least write the plots or stories for certain characters they want to. NBC gave Friday Night Lights that opportunity and that show ended on such a high note.
