123. Fandom made me realize I never "just" read. What does that even mean? Did you really not analyze the characters before, or imagine them in situations that weren't in the canon? Isn't that basically...why there's fandom? And if you didn't...why isn't fandom better?

135. To be fair, I've seen any number of, say, HP fics that made no such attempt at all. And personally, I say, "bloody," all the time. That might just be my mouth though, since I insert, "bloody," when it would be over-the-top to say, "fuck."

It's just bad writing no matter who's doing it.

141. I think it's terrible largely because I doubt the show can be sustained that long.

Agreed.
I mean, really, they're gonna run out of mysterious cases at some point. It'll start getting repetitive. I love House, so I want it to end well, instead of sucking in the last season or two.

I enjoy House, but really, it's already pretty repetitive. I stopped caring about the medical cases almost immediately. I watch for the character interaction.

It's more of a wondering what fandom has wrought upon the book. For example, I read "Twilight" when it first came out, not aware of the fandom. And I actually liked the book. Now, I feel like I have to be more careful of what opinions I share regarding books, lest people make fun of me. For the most part, prior to fandom, I just read books to enjoy them in the moment.

And, I've actually done a lot of academic research (I'm a grad student) on fandom and that's exactly why fandom exists -- to fill whatever void or unfulfilled desire the reader/watcher has. That's why fanfiction's so popular.

Now, whenever I read something, I begin to write fanfic in my mind. So, instead of enjoying "art" for art's sake, I want to mutate it into something of my own creation.
