101. *waves* Hellloooo, let us fangirl together.

104. When shopping in the boys section of WalMart for Pokemon/YugiOh/Gundam shirts, I always say they're for my little brother Bobby. ...I'm an only child!

114. History slash is the best kind.

143. IT IS WRONG

145. They have some damn good lyrics as a band. Yay Pete Wentz!<3

156. ...Seriously? Wow. I'm doing a presentation on the Manhattan project due Thursday. You don't happen to have any primary sources, do you? (You from Oak Ridge? Or one of the other fourteen hidden cities?) Uhm, I guess don't really feel bad, it's not you dropped the bomb?

143 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-09-23 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, no. Not really.

Re: 143 OP

[identity profile] ryahhime.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Augh, no, no it is!
Because Clow was the- wait, which canon are we using? Manga or anime? And if anime, English or Japanese?
Because in my Japanese manga canon, NOOOO WRONG. He's like her dad! (In a cloned kind of way. Even so, incestual tendencies coming through there.) And if he's not her dad, he's a crazy magician who's like bajillion years older than her, in love with someone else, and more of a mentor... masquerading as a touchy-feely grade-schooler. You can't tell me that's normal behavior in a non-gross ship. Not to mention that Syaoran/Sakura is canon in any and all versions.
*foams*
Sorry, it's just, this show is like the one and only time that my canon instincts kick in. I can see unrequited Tomoyo/Sakura, I can see pre-Syaoran unrequited Sakura/Yukito, I can even see the far out ships (Kero/Yue...) but that? It just strikes me as something canon is against, and doesn't feel right for the characters or for romance in general.

Oh my God I need to stop letting my cold medicine hijack my threads.

Okay, I don't know why I'm arguing except that someone really hurt me for shipping them. Thus the secret. But, um, from the Eriol/Sakura ship manifesto:

Is it plausible that they could throw away the fact that Eriol is practically Sakura's uncle? Absolutely. She doesn't seem to see him in a familial way. It's definitely a friendship, even after he reveals his true identity. She does remark that he reminds her of her father, but psychology tells us that women seek out men like their fathers. And it's important to remember that they are not genetically related. Sakura is genetically related to her father, but not to Eriol. Plus, he reminds her of Yukito, and at this point she still has a crush on Yukito. They are Clow's reincarnates, not his clones. A reincarnate has his own DNA and looks different from his predecessor.

I ship S/S and E/K too, but I don't think it's gross to ship E/Sak. Does canon lean this way? No. But Eriol remarks that he thought Yue's false form would fall in love with the mistress, and Yukito/Sakura requited isn't that much more "creepy" than this is.

Well I do have to say ship bashers are wrong. I did overreact a little, but if I can learn to accept 1x2 when my OTP is 1xR, I can pretty much learn to accept anything. :D

Anything, that is, except incest.

And that is what I view Eriol/Sakura, in a pretty black and white way, actually. How much she sees him as family is completely up to debate, and at no point does she ever indicate she is romantically/physically attracted to him. Some women do seek out men like their fathers, but that shouldn't validate a relationship. Can you imagine if women all went around marrying copies of their fathers? Almost literally, in this case? Freud's spirit would be so happy his tears of joy would probably resurrect him and zombie Freud would live next door to Sakura and Eriol for the rest of his undead days. I know they aren't genetically related, but the blatant family connection and the mentor role just seal the deal as uncle and niece for me.
(Of course, this is just my interpretation, and I know that I am often off the mark at times.)

She did have a crush on Yukito, true, but he was wrong for her, which she eventually realized. Yukito/Sakura always rubbed me the wrong way, but at least canon leaned toward it more, you know?

Ah well. I'm glad you're a cool OP, sometimes the OPs here are like "NOOOOO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SPARKLY PURETRULOVEEEEEE THEY ARE YOU H0R!" and then I am sad. I guess I can respect the E/S shipping done in a very tasteful, very non-related, very "you have your ship I have mine" kind of way. :)

Well, hey, thanks for not freaking out on ME when I responded. XD I appreciate it.

People who disagree in fandom really can agree to disagree! This is a historical occasion indeed.

Thanks for the comment.

143 OP wasn't very clear

(Anonymous) 2008-09-23 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
By which I mean, it's not canonical but there's nothing technically wrong with shipping a non-canon pairing.

I have nothing against non-canon pairings. I often enjoy non-canon pairings.
It's those pairings where the clone of her dad disguises himself as a child to be her mentor (while he's in love with her teacher)... you can't tell me that isn't gross.
