Did you seriously not even read what I wrote there? (Also, I've posted comments here I think twice, and you've been vehemently opposed to my stand both times. Apparently, you do not like me.) Good lord, you so fabulously skewed the entire import of my comment that it's hard to even salvage my opinion. Let's try bullet points, shall we?

* Zuko acts in an emo fashion for a noticeable duration of the show.
* Zuko has a legitimate reason (i.e. an abusive father) to have legitimate issues
* Zuko does not cope well with his issues for a noticeable duration of the show, resulting in: emo tendencies, a violent temper, extremely low self-esteem, misdirected rage, damaging mistrust of others, etc.
* Zuko eventually finds the strength of self to move past his legitimately issue-laden past and become a person he, and others, can be proud of. This includes shedding the majority of his my-dad-hates-me-induced emo, temper, low self-esteem, etc. (although the emo is really the only thing up for discussion, as per OP).
* If your average person living in the first decade of the 2000's gets sucked into emo, no matter what the cause, the long term effects will be generally detrimental
* THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE, MYSELF INCLUDED, WHO COMMENT ON THE CHARACTER HAVE NOT HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES TO HIS OR TO THE OP'S AND THEREFORE ANY COMMENTARY OFFERED SHOULD BE VIEWED AS IT IS: AN OUTSIDER'S VIEWPOINT.
* I think the OP will probably end up just fine, based solely on the fact that he/she wants to resolve his/her issue with his/her dad, and recognizes the strength and courage he/she would will need in order to do so. I believe that, armed with that knowledge, he/she will eventually make it happen, and he/she will eventually become someone he/she feels he/she can truly be proud of, just as Zuko did. (And I am not here implying that he/she has nothing to be proud of - I am taking the sentiments of fear of confrontation and dissatisfaction with the current situation as expressed in the post and extrapolating a certain degree of shame. I have been in similar mindsets, although, as repeatedly admitted, not instigated by the same problem, and at those times I have always felt a certain small degree of shame.)

plz to not jumping down throats, kthxbai.

Point one and two contradict eachother. "Emo" automatically implies illegitimacy, and has negative connotations. It's not even true that Zuko is emo - Zuko is angry and has issues. It's not the same as wearing eyeliner and listening to dashboard confessional, kthnx.

Yeah, and how do you conceptualize those detrimental long-term effects? Not being able to pick a gender (what the fuck) and listening to bad music? Yeah, for sure. That's definitely how it works.

Yeah, but you still have the audacity to equate the very realistic issues that Zuko had with being emo. What do you think that says to people who are trying to cope with it in real life? I'm jumping down your throat because I'm tired of this double-speak. Either his issues are legitimate or they're not. Obviously it's not okay for someone with daddy issues to traipse across the world and violently hunt down people, but " a violent temper, extremely low self-esteem, misdirected rage, damaging mistrust of others, etc." as a result of an abusive parent is not shit that anybody should be calling whiny/emo, and that's EXACTLY what you're doing when you say "Oh he grew out of it," as if it's no different than a Hot Topic phase.
