Re: What’s a skill that everyone should have?

There genuinely are people who don't know how but - and that's the main issue imo, also don't WANT to know. I knew several people in college, both male and female, who had never done their own laundry even once in their lives and then made a big song and dance about their ineptitude instead of... just looking it up real quick.

There are absolutely also people who simply use "not knowing" as a lazy-ass excuse. Like men in a relationship refusing to do chores because they "never learned how to do it" and just "don't know how, it's not their fault" - no, you're just too macho to do it and yes, it very much is your fault. You're able to look up how things you are interested in work, you can bloody well look up how the washing machine works.

Yep. I have way too many friends who use "I don't know how to cook" as an excuse for always eating pre-made garbage or takeout. Cooking is literally one of the easiest skills to learn, anyone can scramble some eggs, bake a chicken breast, or make a stirfry.

Must be nice having the energy and disposable income to make mistakes. It can be paralyzing when you're faced with "get cheap frozen meals vs hope you don't burn this thing or otherwise make it borderline inedible because you've never cooked before."

I could not be rolling my eyes any harder right now. It's nearly impossible to screw up basic cooking that badly unless you aren't paying any attention to what you're doing. The only way to burn stuff is either by setting the temperature way too high and then not paying attention/checking on it or just by not paying attention, period.

I taught myself to cook and I have never rendered anything inedible yet. I've overcooked stuff before, yeah, but it was still perfectly edible.

... you do realize frozen meals actually cost a lot more than cooking from scratch, right?
