If violence is the only way to get your political opinion/point across, it's very likely not a very good point. And you always have to ask yourself if you would excuse those same violent actions if the person commiting them didn't incidentally share your political point of view.

I'm not talking "defended someone from violence and had to use a certain degree of violence to do it" or "fought an evil regime with violence because there was no other way", mind. But if that situation burns down to "I violently assaulted someone because they don't agree with me and my opinion is the right one" then... no, you're full of shit.

Sure, but - to take one of your examples - an evil regime would probably characterize people who fought against it with violence as "extremists" too.

So there has to be some kind of measure or rule, in addition to the presence or absence of violence, to determine what counts as extremism that should be opposed.
