I totally get where you're coming from OP. I'm glad your relationship with your sister is getting better, so all the courage to you! I personally have a few things I can't watch /never finished because of how closely they hit home, so know at least you're not alone!

I was around J-rock and J-pop fandoms in the early 2000s and I remember there being anon forums where people posted about their encounters with band members. I've seen stuff I'd rather not know about wrt visual kei bands' kinks. Not sure I remember the J-pop side of the fandom having the same thing though. They're probably more discreet about it since pop idols tend to have that fantasy aspect to them and how they're not allowed to date.

From what I've seen, K-pop fandom is bigger and more intense than what I'm familiar with. In light of the recent sex scandals, I guess some women were indeed harmed and coerced.

No idea! I got some really weird reviews from other (often male) fic writers in that fandom, and this is why I don't entirely buy into the "they must be young" justification because I knew these people were at least college-aged or older.

One other reviewer, this time on a femslash story, complained that there was not enough sex (fic was labeled as a PG-13 comedy) and suggested that I checked out "better writers" to see how it was done. Miffed, I went to this person's profile and saw that they also wrote fics in the same fandom. Must be a pro, right? I swear to god, the very first story I clicked on featured the phrase "cerulean orbs" in the first paragraph.

Anime fandoms in the late 2000s! What a trip.

I'm always baffled when I see how exteremly popular they are with adult women as well, because they look way too boyish (young?) to be sexy to my eyes.

Agreed most people are sexual. Disagree that most people spend most of their time fucking or trying to be fucked. As with everything, it's a scale. That's an extreme end of the scale. If this were true, no one would go to work, visit friends, go to the movies etc. They would spend their entire lives trying to and getting laid. I'd argue most are in the middle somewhere. If you're not asexual or demisexual, sex is great but most aren't going to go out of their way to find it if it's going to disrupt the rest of their life.
Also, the media has the position that people are out all the time getting sex. The reality is the younger generation is having less sex than their parents. Single people also, by research, have less sex than those in a relationship. Makes sense. Most single people aren't big on having constant one night stands.

It's not always younger readers, either. For YEARS, I had a reviewer to a series I'd write constantly telling me "You should do a chapter on this, you should do a chapter on that". I got curious and found their twitter, and they were around my age (20s to 30s). Eventually I-got tired of it and blocked them on FFN, just for them to come back as a guest and continue the same nonsense. Eventually I deleted enough of their reviews that they seem to have given up.

Scripts represent a tiny friction of the overall costs. And I'm pretty sure that if someone at the helm was dissatisfied with their quality, they would have been rewritten ten times already, they have that money. They just like it the way it is.
