+1. I'm not about to sit here and try to explain (for example) consensual nonconsent to these squawking idiots that think anything other than married missionary sex is abuse. Frankly, I write great kink, but I only share it with the people I know won't freak out on me because I've ridden that rollercoaster before and no thanks.

Is this a tumblr thing? I just- I haven't ever seen anything close to this level of purity wank in the comments on AO3, and I tend to read the comments sections very frequently. This isn't my passive-aggressive way of saying this never happened to you. I just genuinely am curious about this.

Used to be tumblr, has definitely moved over to twitter in the grand exodus. I'm being a little hyperbolic, but honestly not that much; it's less in the way of comments on fic and more in the spreading of bad or misleading information and leading attacks on the authors/artists themselves. If you've ever seen authors/artists lock down their twitters and turn off DMs and such, that's generally why.

Ah, ok. In that case, I bow to your superior knowledge of how that part of fandom works. I'm one of those hermit fans who is very, very into fanfic, but not super into the social side of fandom. AO3 is home for me, largely. I visit tumblr, but don't really get involved there, and twitter is foreign territory.

I can definitely believe that twitter brings out the purity wank, though. Sorry you have to deal with that. :/
