I personally don't think he's more flawed than the other characters, but I think people are reacting more strongly to Luther's perceived flaws than they are to everyone else's. For example, when I see people taking big issues with Luther's paternalism, I notice they're not taking Alison to task for her maternalism when it comes to Vanya and more specifically, Vanya's love life.

It's controversial, but I do think there are issues of race and gender coming into play here. Alison's actions are seen as sisterly concern. Never mind that she and Vanya don't have that kind of recent relationship closeness that would call for her to step in. Never mind that Vanya hasn't asked for help and has indeed, done the opposite. Never mind that Alison's throwing stones while living in a very large glass house. But fandom is very, very willing to drag Luther over the coals for trying to be Replacement Daddy. They're both wrong. But Luther is wrong...er?

I'm pretty sure anon asked for Luther's faults, not Allison's.

NAYRT I read AYRT's comment as "fandom thinks he's trying too hard to be Replacement Daddy, and his sudden paternal concern is irritating."
My own interpretation of AYRT's comment is that fandom has daddy issues, specifically issues with men who feel the need to "protect" an adult woman who can very well take care of herself and in the process stifle her.

Okay... Still doesn't answer anons question though. Not to say they don't have a point but it's just not the point that was asked for.

Anon wanted to know why people think Luther is so bad when, in their opinion, Luther is no more flawed than the others. The second anon gave an example of how a similarly flawed character was interpreted by fandom in a different way.

What exactly are you having trouble understanding

nayrt

Oh, they're not having trouble. I imagine someone is just huffy that I pointed out that Alison has flaws and didn't attack Luther enough.

No. But whatever floats your boat.

*eyeroll* If you're so very, very concerned about OP getting answers, you could respond, too. I mentioned one of the biggest flaws Luther has that fandom takes issue with - his paternalism.

I apologize for having the temerity to go off script in a fandom discussion.

Are you saying that fandom is racist towards Luther? LOL.
