There was this one incredible novel-length fic for an older TV fandom that I swear must have been secretly penned by one of the show's writers. It was so perfectly in character and played out exactly like an episode would; same beat, same flow, same narrative and script quirks, the whole enchilada. This wasn't a typical fic by any stretch; if the writer wasn't working for the show, they absolutely were still professional at the very least. It's been years since I last read it but I still think about it every now and then.

What I Do For Rent Money, by CheshireCity

Summary:
Matt just wants to get through college and be done with it. He's young and he's near as broke and paying the rent is hard enough. He WOULD kick his roommate out but he simply can't afford it. Of course, his roommate would be a lot easier to live with if he would just stop bringing dead bodies into their dorm.

Matt and BB centric shenanigans, with a bit of Matt/Mello kinda hinted at. (Death Note)

Crysothemis's 'Happy' in SGA (sadly now deleted along with all of her works)

Daegaer's 'Bright with his splendour ' in Good Omens

Very old now but several of the works by Anna Orr in the original Battlestar Galactica fandom. Her writing was definitely weakest when it came to porn but WOW. She was bloody amazing at fleshing out the BSG universe and writing novel length adventure stories that were so well paced and plotted and perfectly IC. They're nowhere on the Internet now but I reread them on my hd regularly still.
